Business BLAB - How to Plan and Create Intentional Content

Content may be King, but you’re a Queen… and Queens slay all day when it comes to content! But, it may not always feel easy to rock the content game like you’re royalty. The key is to have a plan, and be consistent and international with how, when and where you show up. Sounds easy right? It definitely can be once you get used to it! There is no magical strategy that works for everyone when it comes to content planning, but these are a few things that have helped me ditch the overwhelm and show up providing value to the people I want to be speaking to!

Know Your Audience- Let’s start from the top… if you don’t know WHO your content is for, then there is really no reason in creating it at all. Content planning is not always easy, and you may end up wasting your time if you are just creating content hoping it will reach the right people. Get very VERY clear on who your ideal client and target audience are so that you can create all of your content with their want/needs/likes/problems in mind! This also helps your figure out WHERE to spend your time/WHAT platforms to create content for. You don’t need to be everywhere at once...you’ve got enough to do, so step back and see where you are really needed.

Solve The Problem- So, if you listened to step one you have a really good idea of what your audience is struggling with right? This is your chance to be the super hero! You get to offer a unique solution to your audience before they even have to ask the question…read that again…. This is powerful stuff! Imagine your dream client scrolling on Insta and seeing the answer to their biggest problem that they may not have even known how to ask about… and YOU are the person who just made it click for them. YOU can help them, they are on your page, BOOM! Chances are they’ll be sliding into your DMs any minute. When we can predict what our dream customers need and be able to show up and solve it we become the trusted expert. Your content is a huge opportunity to flex your value! So, check out google, answerthepublic.com, and hand around areas where your ideal client will be spending their time. See what they’re asking, and find a way to create your content into solutions.

Market Research- Still feeling stuck on what to create? There is no shame in straight up askig your audience what they WANT to see! That’s right…. Just ask them. Instagram and email marketing are great ways to pose questions to your audience and see what it is they are really wanting. Maybe they want to see more of you and your dog, behind the scenes, videos, or more FAQ graphics. This gives them a chance to use their voice and engage with what you’re creating. Afterall, it is called social media! Just because you’re the expert doesn’t mean you can’t get social and see what the people really want! Try out the features in Insta stories that you take polls, pose questions, and more. Or, try inviting your audience to reply to your email with something they feel like they’re missing. This is a great way to make sure you are keeping your audience and coming back for more.

Choose Your Pillars- Once you start to have a grasp on what your audience wants to see, and what your overall goal is on your platforms, choose a few content pillars. These are 4-7 categories that all of your content will fall under. For example, mine are RELATABLE- MOTIVATIONAL- EDUCATIONAL- INSPIRATIONAL- Now, these can be as broad or specific as you’d like, and you’re the only person who is really going to know what your pillars are. They are just your way to keep yourself organized and consistent, and really help out when you’re struggling with what to post. Keeping all of your content in line with these pillars will make sure that your audience doesn't get confused, and you are showing up without intentionally.

Be Authentic- I bet you knew this was coming, didn’t you. You HAVE TO BE YOU! Your content HAS TO SHOWCASE THE REAL YOU! You cannot expect people to connect with your logo, your graphics, or anything you have to say if you aren’t showing up, being yourself, and letting people in. You cannot just post sales graphics and share your products/programs over and over and expect people to commit to you. Come at your content from a place of connection, relatability, and engagement, the sales will come… I could talk about this all day, so let's just keep it at that. Be YOU!

Batch Your Content- For most people, flying by the seat of your pants when it comes to content just makes things harder. I recommend spending some time to batch at least a week's worth and have it ready to go. You can pick a theme for the whole week and spread it across your social, emails, blogs, podcast, etc. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel (I hate it when people say that, but it’s true!) you just have to be showing up as you for your audience with enough value and entertainment to keep people engaged. So, take a few hours and spend some quality time with canva creating graphics, do your hair and makeup and shoot a bunch of videos, write a few blogs while the creative juices are flowing, whatever you do just create ahead of time.

So there ya go! These are a few of my favorite tips when it comes to content. Just have fun with it and try not to compare yourself to what others are doing. You have a unique voice and presence and your audience is waiting to hear from you. What are your fav content creating tips? Until next time, stay bossy!
